Prompt Preview
Apply the Kotlin 2.4 prompt first. Its version rule and its kapt cache rule cover this plugin too, because the Kotlin Multiplatform Gradle plugin shares Kotlin's version number. These rules cover Kotlin Multiplatform plugin 2.4, its source-set graph, platform adapters, foreign interop, and distributed artifacts, and were checked against 2.4.10.
Version and target scope
- Check
pluginManagement, buildSrc, and included builds soorg.jetbrains.kotlin.multiplatformand every other Kotlin Gradle plugin resolve to the one Kotlin version the build declares, in every module. A module left on an older plugin keeps whatever build-tooling flaws later Kotlin releases fixed, such as the kapt cache deserialization covered in the Kotlin 2.4 prompt. - Use the compatibility row for the Kotlin release you resolve: 2.4.0 through 2.4.10 support Gradle 7.6.3–9.5.0 and Android Gradle Plugin 8.5.2–9.1.0, and 2.4.20 extends that to Gradle 9.7.0 and AGP 9.3.1, all with Xcode 26.4. Also satisfy the selected AGP's Gradle/JDK requirements; these ranges do not make every combination compatible. Recheck the matrix on every Kotlin update.
- Set each target's deployment/runtime requirements explicitly. Kotlin 2.4 defaults to iOS/tvOS 15, macOS 12, and watchOS 8; JVM bytecode targets are 8–26. Use maintained runtimes and OS releases, and distinguish bytecode compatibility from the JDK required to run Gradle.
- Assess support per target and interop mechanism: Kotlin/Wasm is Beta, Swift export is Alpha, and Native target tiers have different compatibility and testing guarantees. Review each
